What I've learned this past week

Well actually I learned this a week and 1/2 ago, but I almost did it again yesterday so I thought I would share. I find it funny, well because I like to laugh at myself I guess, makes life a little lighter and fun!

So the first time it happened was last Wednesday, which is the one of 2 days during the week that I have to be out of my house by 8:45 am. I'm a morning person, but I don't like having to get anywhere right away. I like being able to give my baby breakfast and then us playing in our p.j.'s in the backyard for a few hours (well he plays and I rake leaves....Will they ever stop falling?!) OK so I'll set the scene for you. The mommy was being lazy the night before and didn't get our lunches ready and JT's school bag packed with his essentials so of course I'm trying to get that done, plus feed the baby breakfast and get myself ready all with in an hours time.....next to impossible I might add. So finally I get us all packed into the car ready to go (of course we're running late) and I start the car and hit the garage door opener. Well if you ask me they should but a faster motor on those things for people like me :-) because when I thought the door was up far enough for my car to pass under I put it in reverse and.....boom, creeeeek, silence.....that's right I backed right into the bottom part of our garage door as it was coming up and it drug across the top of the back of the car....nice. Oh wait it gets better....so my first thought was "did I just knock the door off it's roller? and "it's going to fall on top of the car" followed with "I better hurry and try and get out of the way of it falling" (the doors are the original ones from 1976, are wood and weigh about 200 lbs, so the thought of it landing on top of me and Jackson in the car was flashing fearfully through my mind). So in my attempt to protect my precious baby in the car I hurry and put it in drive and tap the gas with my foot....umm wrong thing to do with the Honda!! You see this little CRV may be just a 4-cyl but she's got ump like you wouldn't believe. I have to be careful because if I step on it off of lights I'll end up peeling out....I love that little car! Anyway, so in my fear I tap the gas with my foot and the car leaps forward about 6 ft and Bam!.... smacks the fridge that we have in the garage....what a nice finish, I think! I hop out of the car and check the damage.....garage door still on runners and won't fall on car....check......fridge door slightly dented with a mark of green from the car.....check.....front bumper has a little smudge.....check.....top back of car....not quite as good as the rest.....really bad scratches all along the edge from the garage door scraping against it.

I get back in the car and think "did I just dream this?, did this really happen?" I look in the back seat at 2 little sparking blue eyes staring back at me with confusion (I figure that look will appear a lot over the next few years...hey, he has Crissy for a mommy, you can't blame the kid) and think to myself....SLOW DOWN, this could have turned out so much worse. So I call Travis to tell him that the car and the garage door got in a fight in which the garage door won and I was just an innocent by stander, and he tells me the same thing that I was thinking earlier....SLOW DOWN!! Then he started laughing at the thought of all this happening, which by that point I had found it pretty humorous too, so we had a good laugh together.

The best part was when I finally got to BSF, part of the lecture was about delegating responsibility because we can't do it all and one of the reasons we delegate responsibility is so the family can be on time for things and not always running late. Wow, it still amazes me how God does know every intimate detail of our lives....especially my habit of running late. I have since asked Travis to help lay out Jackson's clothes for me and pack his backpack for school the night before and STRIVE to be out the door at least 20 mins (better if it's 30 mins) before I have to be somewhere. That way I don't have to be trying to slip under the garage door to buy an extra 20 seconds or making Jackson feel rush and panicky because we are late. I plan to change this horrible habit that started young for me and I don't want my son to pick up on it and then be like his mommy....the one everyone is always waiting on. I know it will be a struggle and that I will still be late a few times, but if I keep striving eventually it will be a habit to be on time. I've already started this habit for Sundays long before the garage incident, but I have help on Sundays, so I need to do it without the extra set of arms.

So just picture me playing bumper cars with the garage door and the fridge and you might just get a giggle too!

Here's a few pictures just cause....

I love apples
Want some mommy?

Friday, November 21

Because pictures are way better than words....

How about a walk backwards in time, because for some reason that is how my computer uploaded them and I don't want to mess with copy and pasting to get them in chronological order....so here we go.........

Sitting at the dinner table with my new toy I found in the closet. This was suppose to be an Easter present...it's a toy weed eater I found at a Craigs List garage sale and was planning on hiding it till spring, but we were doing some rearranging in the office last night and he found it in the closet. He would sit and eat as long as the weed eater was on the table with him. I hid it again after he went to bed....well at least I know he will love it this spring. The boy is all about the lawn equipment.
Me, daddy and my weed eater having some dinner
Trying to share my banana with my friend Greyson. Greyson is 3 and wants no part of the baby slobbered banana
My friend Jenny lives a few blocks over and has 2 boys that are 15 months apart....could you imagine?! Whew! Anyway, Gavin (far left) is just as big as his big brother Greyson (far right) and then there's my little dude. JT loves it at Jenny's house. Boy haven and they have a back yard that is as big as a park.....how does that work?....she lives in the same neighborhood as me
Sitting in the drivers seat of Greyson's jeep.
Greyson taking JT for a ride in the jeep
It was super chilly her last weekend so here is JT all bundled up, helping us with yard work...will the leaves EVER STOP FALLING??!!
Eating an apple
Petting Copper.....the relationship between those two has improved dramatically now that JT eats food....sometimes I catch him tossing a few pieces to his new BFF.....Copper hated him the first year, but now that the kid gives him food, he's starting to really like JT. That dang dog!! And yes those are boots he's wearing....he loves those things. I have to hid them otherwise we end up wearing them from the moment we get out of bed, hence the pj's with the boots
Going to the park 2 weekends ago.....it was 80 on Sunday and by Saturday it was only a high of 50...talk about your ups and downs

Playing with mommy at the park....trying get him to sit still for a picture is next to impossible these days...such a toddler
Such determination
Again with those blues.....
When we go down a slide we ALWAYS have to go right back up it
We are not amused...
Eating Lobster Bisque with daddy. Why on the floor I have no idea? But he loved the soup....I think it's disgusting
At the zoo with my friend Benjamin
We love the zoo!!
This picture cracks me up...it's by the elephants. Jordan's sitting on it doing some sort of elephant pose, Sammy's trying to talk to it, JT's running away and Benjamin is the only one looking at the camera
There is a huge window by the white tigers den and this tiger was feeling frisky. He kept pacing back in forth in front of it. This pic was snapped right before JT started screaming....I think it sacred him a little....to tell you the truth, I was checking out to see just how tight that window was in the rocks....he appeared a little too hungry for me
with mommy and daddy
playing in the ball pit...one of his favorites
We went to the Trunk or Treat party in our church's HUGE parking lot. It was a TON OF FUN...here's JT trying to figure out what all these goodies are
Sitting in the back of daddy's truck with my friend Benjamin. I think they were fencing...one with a water bottle the other with his pumpkin light saver
Big smiles after riding the up and down coaster he got for his birthday
At the Truck or Treat everyone had some sort of game as well as candy at their car. We had the up and down coaster....which was causing traffic jams...kids where lined up forever to ride this thing....I think most of the southwest part of Ft Worth was there that night...it was so much fun!! Travis took JT around to see every one while Brenda (Benjamin's mom) and I ran the coaster at our truck.
JT was Dennis the Menace for Halloween....pretty fitting if you ask me. Daddy made the sling shot
Pic from our vacation to Wyoming at the beginning of October. This is Crissy's grandpa and grandma....they will be here tomorrow for Thanksgiving!!
Right before the snow started falling in Wyoming
Riding the lawn tractor at Gigi's and Grandpa Tony's.....he LOVED it and it didn't even get turned on
Look at those baby blues....just love em!!
Headed somewhere with serious intent
Riding in the wagon at grandma Sandy and Papa Mike's house aka Travis's mom and dad.
He loves his red wagon
Playing at my friend Tara's house with Tara's husband Jason. They have 2 girls so it was funny to watch him play with the ladies and all their parafinilia
Pushing his baby and stroller around the house
Playing with the girls
